New forum images!

Images in the ROBLOX Forum have been changed, let's see what they look like.

Here are what some admins have to say about the update!

"So... notice anything different?

The changes you see today are the result of applying consistent CSS (style sheets) to the entire ROBLOX.com site in order to establish a more consistent presentation throughout. This means a uniform use of fonts, font sizes, icons etc. (The old site wasn't particularly consistent about all of this.)

We're doing this to establish consistency, but also to provide the groundwork for us to expand into multilingual versions. This means the elimination throughout the site of button text images: e.g. the "Post Reply" button in the forums used to be an image (the text was part of the image); now the text in the button is "live" and can be adapted to whatever language we want to use. As we are in the process of launching our German site and are evaluating further country/language sites, this change is necessary.

Now that the style changes are live, it is apparent that some tweaks will need to be made, especially to font sizes (in order to improve readability). We'll be making those changes in the next day or so, as well as evaluating whether the icons are as clear of purpose as they ought to be. Thanks to those of you who have chimed in about readability; I agree: the tiny fonts make my head hurt, too. (And yes, we'll also be changing the point size of the font in the edit/message form.)

I should point out that today's updates are *not* the changes I alluded to a few weeks ago -- we're still working on new functionality for the forums overall (looking at reinstating the top poster system, greentexting, siggys and so forth -- but it's premature at this time to say exactly what will roll out and when; we have other stuff in our development pipeline that will be rolling out first).

It's a baby step. But a needed one.
Thanks for your patience while we complete this work.

-- Brad"

"Many of you are noticing that we are implementing a new set of forum icons. Some of you are seeing this off and on as you load pages of the forums. That's normal: the changes are being effected across our webservers so it will take a bit of time before each and every server is updated.

We know the new icons might look very different to you if you are accustomed to the old ones, but these new icons are clearer, sharper and more accessible to our international users. We hope you like them! - MasterChiefAlpha"

Personally, I do like the new icons, they are very fun and.. interesting.

Use Gamehero’s MIDI Player to Play Music in Your Game

Ever wonder what ROBLOX would be like with music? User Gamehero certainly has, and stepped outside of just “wondering” and actually created something that’s pretty innovative: a Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) player. Before we take a look at the player and show you how to use it in your games, let’s go over what exactly a MIDI file is.

MIDI is a technical standard that can carry event messages that specify notation, pitch and velocity, and send them to separate devices. MIDI files have an extremely small footprint–they’re often very small files, especially for how long the songs can actually be. MIDI versions of songs often makes them sound like “8-bit” versions of themselves–they are composed entirely of virtual instruments.
Because MIDI’s have existed for so long (over twenty years at this point), chances are, if there’s a song you enjoy, there’s a MIDI version of it somewhere on the internet. Gamehero has created a MIDI player that can play any MIDI files in your games! There are thousands of MIDI tracks all over the internet–and not just songs–sound effects, vocal cues, and a ton of other audio mediums. Start by downloading the model for the player, here.
“Music really brings games to life,” said Gamehero in an interview. “Music can make games emotional. The right music can completely change an environment.”
The mixer itself intuitive and customizable–you can change the volume of each virtual instrument to make each song sound exactly the way you intend. You can jam over tunes using a virtual piano. You can also customize music in your place to play at certain points, or when certain things happen in your game.

“One example would be creating an invisible brick to pass through that triggers music,” says Gamehero. “I have a sudden urge to make this even easier for less experienced users to put music in their games.”

To help out, Gamehero shared these lines of code, which could help you create music at points throughout your map. If you just want to mess with the MIDI player itself, it’s available here.

Creating a MIDI player that works within ROBLOX was no easy task, according to Gamehero. Developing it required a lot of time, some tricky reverse-engineering and a lot of testing.
“There are a ton of ways MIDI files and commands are read,” said Gamehero. “Many are so different that they confused the player and caused errors. It was a real pain rewriting the script to make it compatible and efficient with each new MIDI I found and loaded.”

“It was especially frustrating when I was convinced there were no more errors only to find out from a friend that something else was wrong a month later,” he added.

We had ROBLOX Creative Director John Shedletsky insert the script into Sword Fight on the Heights. We figured that actually loading the player into a game wouldn’t be tricky, but we were curious as to how easy it would be to add our own MIDI song to the player. John investigated.

I was surprised how easy it was to get my own custom MIDI files to play in Sword Fight on the Heights. First I grabbed Gamehero’s MIDI sequencer model. Then I opened my level in ROBLOX Studio and added it to the workspace. After that, it was simple to follow his directions (in the README script) to get music playing in my level. It took two minutes total to get the songs that come with the model to play.

Adding my own songs only took slightly more effort. I had some MIDI files already laying around. I downloaded HxD, a freeware hex editor, to open them and copy the hex representation of the files into the sequencer model (this was the hackiest part). Then, magically, everything just worked. I was expecting to run into file format compatibility issues, but Gamehero has done a really solid job parsing the MIDI file format. All of the MIDIs I tried importing worked properly on the first try. To make them sound even better, he’s provided an editing tool that allows you to swap out instruments and adjust the volume of individual tracks. I haven’t played with it too much, but it looked like a very useful tool. Give it a try.

We look forward to seeing how users leverage music in their games. Adding music to ROBLOX is an idea we’ve tinkered with, but we’ve got several fish to fry before getting to that. In the meantime, our users aren’t going to wait for the features they want. Thanks to Gamehero, you can add background music to your ROBLOX levels today!

-ROBLOX Helper- How to get the Astral Isles package

Yesterday, ROBLOX released this package.
Astral Isle Apprentice
Many people have been asking on the ROBLOX forums, How do I get this?

How do you get it?
Simple! And yet again, it's not so simple. The way to get it is make a retexture hat for the Presidents Day sale.

As the admins proably already have all the hats picked out, it's to late.

Sorry all of you who wanted this package, you didn't know, now you do, and no one hacked for it.

--Update--
It's now for sale for 300 Robux.

VAK currently has around 500-600 members, and has 11 ranks.

Private
Private First Class
Corporal Sergeant

Captain
Colonel
Senior Colonel
General
Supreme General
Emperor

VAK has few numbers, but is known for it's.. 'pure evil'. VAK is stated the worst group on ROBLOX, VAK is strict, and turns players strict, you are NEVER allowed to make any faces like :) / :P / :O Anything like that. If a high rank sees you do that, you are never allowed back in.

Many people hate VAK, and many people like the torture. VAK is a very strong group, and it's forts are always watched on, as they are raided nearly 24/7.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at ROBLOX Customer Service

ROBLOX continues to grow larger each day – which also means that more users have questions or need help with all things ROBLOX. Luckily, our Customer Service team is highly trained in assisting our users and finding solutions to their problems in a timely manner. We chatted with members of the ROBLOX Customer Service team about what they do, what you can do if you have an issue, and steps you can take to keep your account secure.

5,000 is a Big Number

Users come to us with all sorts of ROBLOX-related problems – it can be something as small as a changed password, or something as big as a hacked account. We wear many hats in Customer Service, but the underlying goal is simple: we want to get customers the things they need to fully enjoy their ROBLOX experience.
That being said, let’s take a look at some of our primary responsibilities. ROBLOX Customer Service representatives:
  • Answer e-mails
  • Answer Tweets
  • Create Help Articles
  • Gather information about emerging issues and report them to developers
  • Gather information about customer service improvements from our customers
We respond to an average of 5,000 (!) separate tickets each week (just imagine what it’s like on holidays!). That’s a lot of tickets for a team of 19 people – luckily each of us is trained to deal with every aspect of the ROBLOX user experience. We pride ourselves in the fact that each and every problem is handled by a live person, and we’ve elected to go with a simple solution to prioritizing each ticket. We don’t put any particular issue in the limelight for any reason – issues are tackled one at a time, in the order in which they were received. If you send us an e-mail with a problem, we can almost always have an answer for you in less than 24 hours. And in the rare instance we don’t know of an immediate solution to your problem, we will send you looking in the right direction (more on this later).

Working With the Web Team to Make a Better ROBLOX

We also work directly with ROBLOX web developers–they’ve created an arsenal of tools to help us work more effectively. We’ve worked together on building web tools that expedite our work flow – such as programs for password and email resets, the ability to re-assign groups, and more recently a holding system that’s designed to put an end to scams on ROBLOX. All of these were created in an effort to expedite all of our work so we can find solutions for our users as quickly as possible.

Help Us Help You!

There are a few things you can do before you contact Customer Service that may actually provide you with the answers you need. Always check the ROBLOX Help pages when you have an issue – there are thousands of pages in the “Help” Section in our site, and you can use the search bar to filter your search.
Hacked accounts are an often-reported problem on ROBLOX – and overwhelmingly, it’s not because an account was actually hacked (that’s almost nonexistent), but because someone either used a password that was easy to guess, or – worse – shared their password with another user because they thought they were getting something special. (They weren’t!)

There are simple precautions you can take to make sure your account stays secure. Never give your user name and password to another user, for any reason. If a user is offering you something that seems too good to be true, it is. And remember: there is no such thing as a free prize for filling out a survey or free models for your place if you share your password. Also, ROBLOX employees will never ask you for your password. Anyone claiming to be a ROBLOX staff member and asking for your password is misrepresenting themselves. Report them to help keep ROBLOX safe!

Here’s another tip when you start a dialogue between us: be completely honest. When you ask us to begin investigating, we’re going to find out what happened. Even if you’ve done something wrong, seriously, we’ve heard it all before. We’re not here to get you in trouble, we’re here to deal with your issue and move on. If you’re honest with us up front, that frees up some of the very limited time we have to help others. We can help you faster if you provide us with all the information we ask for.

Feedback

Responding to User FeedbackWe always want to know what we can do to help you have a better experience on ROBLOX, and though we don’t respond to every comment, we are reading them every day, all the time. Any feedback, positive or negative, is always valued. Just remember, we’re people too! We know that having problems can be frustrating and can cause some anger, but we’re just as eager to find a solution to your problem as you are. Be courteous and respectful, and we’ll return the favor!

ROBLOX At Night [Mature ONLY]

Warning, if you are under aged or are not mature, do not read this post.

You have been warned.

ROBLOX during the night time is very different, no administrators are online, and players go CRAZY.
SIZE COMPARASION (Record: 14'1)
Yes.. Crazy, ew.

Players make games like this all the time at night, removing it before any admins get back on.

So far tonight there have been at least 10 games like this.

Many threats have been made against ROBLOX for this, like this one.

"How dare you call this a children's game! My son has now been exposed to horrible content, and I must explain what he has seen.

I've screencaptured the horrible worlds made by people on this game, and how the server list is full of kids.

I'm sending this our local news station. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

I will NOT relax! Can you imagine how many other parents are going through this?

"Mommy Mommy, why don't they have clothes!"
NOT APPROPRIATE, I'M SENDING THIS INTO COMMONSENSEMEDIA.org!"

Just to note to you people, children know about this, it's life. Even though it may be immature to make a game like that.. No, nothing good about it, it attracts ODers, and many other... strange players.

If you see a game like this, do not post a link on the forum, simply report it and leave it alone, sharing it on the forum may get others to copy it, or more people to play it.

Playing a game like this is dangerous and very disturbing, only play if you risk it.

Remember, do not online date, you may be dating someone who made/makes games like that.

Be safe, and just report it.
